Charlie Benante (born 27 November 1962, in The Bronx, New York) is the drummer for the heavy metal bands Anthrax and Stormtroopers of Death (S.O.D.). He has been one of the primary songwriters for both Anthrax and S.O.D. and writes and composes the bulk of Anthrax's music while Scott Ian writes the lyrics.

Career
Benante is known for having a very fast double kick technique and has been credited as one of the pioneers of double-bass, as well as popularizing the blast beat technique with thrash metal.
Along with his musician duties, Benante is also a graphic artist and has created many of the band's album cover and t-shirt designs.
Private life
Benante is the uncle of Anthrax bassist Frank Bello, whose mother is Benante's older sister.
Benante's wife gave birth to a baby girl named Mia in January 2006. He has a stepson named Gregory, his wife's child from a previous relationship.
Benante has a large interest in toy and comic collection, as seen in the special features disc of the Anthrax DVD Music of Mass Destruction. He is a huge fan of Star Wars, repeatedly stating in old Anthrax interviews and videos that his favorite character is Darth Vader.[1]
Equipment
Benante uses and endorses Tama drums, Paiste cymbals, Vic Firth sticks[2], Evans drumheads[3], and ddrum electronics.
Benante is one of the few drummers who still uses Tama's HP35 Camco chain-drive pedals, equipment he has used since 1984.[4]
