Biography

Active since 1995, Swedish death metal band Chastisement hails from the city of Östersund, and is made up of vocalist Johan Klitkou, guitarists Marcus Edvardsson, and Tommy Larsson, bassist Nicklas Linnes, and drummer Nils Fjellström. Influenced by fellow Swedes such as Entombed, Edge of Sanity, and God Macabre, their brutal but technical, relatively melody-free style was first heard on a 1997 demo tape, and a debut album entitled ...But Lost We Are appeared two years later. Their sophomore LP, Alleviation of Pain, followed in 2002 and, like its predecessor, was initially only available through the band's website, but it was duly given an official release in 2004 by Rage of Achilles Records. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide
