Clan

Name for a loose federation of seventeen clans in Scotland that claimed Pictish origin, mostly in Inverness, beginning in the 11th century. The clan takes its name from the title of the chief, Gilliechattan Mòr [Great Servant of St Catan], at Kilchattan Abbey, Isle of Bute.
