Chazz Cats

  • Genres: Jazz

Biography

California's Chazz Cats specialize in doing the unexpected, loading their repertoire with songs from a variety of eras and styles. Calling it roadhouse swing, the ensemble belts out everything from standards made popular during the early decades of the 20th century to later blues and jazz numbers, as well as original compositions. Their music covers the spectrum of hot jazz, cool swing, and sultry blues made popular by such legendary artists as Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Fats Waller, Louis Prima, Benny Goodman, Louis Jordan, and Django Reinhardt. Together for more than half a dozen years, the Chazz Cats are led by Charlie "Chazz" Casey, who plays guitar. The remainder of the lineup consists of D'Lilah Monroe on vocals, Greg Laasko doing double duty on clarinet and saxophone, mandolin player Teddy "Silverstring" Silverman, bass player Tom Drohan, and drummer Doctor Don Noble Downing Ward. While based in the San Francisco Bay region, the Chazz Catsperform along the West Coast and have embarked on several tours of Europe. ~ Linda Seida, Rovi
