Kempinski Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten check-in

Check-in is the process of announcing your arrival at a hotel, airport or sea port.

Hotel check-in time indicates that if anybody wants to occupy the hotel room before the hotel's check-in time, the Hotel would be charging for one additional day (as compared to occupying the hotel room after the check-in time). Though most hotels can accommodate little buffer time request (typically 30 min to an hour) by the customers, without any additional charge, if one wishes to take the room before the check-in time. For most cost-effective usage of hotel room occupancy, the customer should try to reach at about Hotel's check-in time and leave (or hand-over) the hotel room at about Hotel's check-out time. Though it may not be always practical e.g. considering arrival and departure time of customer flight, may not align with Hotel check-in and check-out time.

Airports

Check-in desks are found in the majority of commercial airports. Their main function is to take in luggage that passengers wish to, or are required to, place within the aircraft's cargo hold. However, there is an increasing trend towards more automated check-in processes, with many passengers now able to either check-in online before arriving at the airport (often several days before their flight), or use an airline's self-service check-in kiosks at the airport, to avoid queues for the main, staffed, check-in desks. After the luggage is weighed and tagged it is placed on a conveyor which usually feeds into the main baggage handling system.

Hotels

At hotels, Check-in is normally required in order to obtain a room key and provide a credit card guarantee to cover potential costs such as room service for the duration of the stay.

Online Check in

Many airline websites (mainly low cost carriers) have an online check in option. This can be useful for a passenger flying on his own to avoid the queue at an airport check in desk. However, there is a disadvantage of online check in. Firstly, passengers may be charged for using the service. Secondly, some airlines have online check in for passengers with hand baggage only. And finally, passengers do often have to print their own boarding passes. Ever since May 21, 2009, passengers flying with Ryanair must check in online as it is compulsory. Although you can still use an airport check in for a £40 charge. Passengers with hold luggage will then go to bag drop desks in the airport terminal and pay a £10 charge per hold luggage.
