Plot

This Russ Meyer blend of action, rapid-fire editing and large-breasted naked women takes place near the Mexican border, where town sheriff Harry (Charles Napier) is under the thumb of corrupt local bigwig Mr. Franklin (Franklin H. Bolger). In between athletic bouts of sex with various bosomy women, Franklin orders Harry to kill a mysterious figure known as Apache (John Milo), who is trying to corner his lucrative pot-smuggling racket. Meanwhile, Meyer constantly intercuts unrelated scenes of a nude Uschi Digart jumping around naked in an Indian head-dress, bouncing up and down on a jeep, and crawling through the sand in boxing gloves and leather boots. By the time the main story reaches its bloody climax, Digart is in a swimming pool beating the surface of the water with a tennis racket and wearing an oboe on her head. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide

Review

Russ Meyer opens Cherry, Harry and Raquel with a lengthy diatribe against censorship, and he's one of the few adult filmsters with the taste and intelligence to make one believe that he has more than self-preservation in mind. Though Cherry, Harry and Raquel is saddled with one of his more simplistic plots, Meyer more than compensates with insanely addled action, over-the-top performances, and his usual ribald, rapid-fire dialogue. Meyer's style is in full flower here, bouncing from shot to shot with giddy energy and vivid colors. Cherry, Harry and Raquel is also notable for the first Meyer-related appearance of Charles Napier, one of his best leading men. Generally cast as a tooth-grinding heavy, Napier's towering Aryan menace is tempered here in a central role as a corrupt sheriff (a character he'd repeat with more belligerent madness in Supervixens), but even when he's simply criminal instead of psychotic, he fills up a screen like few others. ~ Fred Beldin, All Movie Guide
