The Chicago Slaughter is a team in the Indoor Football League that began play in 2007 as a member of the Continental Indoor Football League. The original team name was the "Foxes," but original team GM Brett Vickers changed the name when his nephew's wife suggested they should have a a name which reflected the working people of Chicago like the bohemian meatpackers of the old Chicago Stockyard. The name became Slaughter so their home field could be called the Slaughter House. They play their home games at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The team was originally intended to be a part of United Indoor Football, but due to a dispute with the league, it changed its course.

Another of Brett Vickers' nephews suggested the team interview William "The Refrigerator" Perry and Steve "Mongo" McMichael from the 1985 Chicago Bears Super Bowl XX championship team for the head coaching position. The aim was to appeal to local fans' affinity tor McMichael and Perry and to take advantage of McMichael's love of hard-nosed, tough football. [1]. McMichael is head coach, while Perry is Director of Football Operations. In the off-season prior to the 2009 season, Super Bowl XX Champions Jim McMahon and Otis Wilson were signed as quarterback and linebacker scouts respectively. [2].

On June 27, 2009, the Slaughter won the CIFL championship, finishing the 2009 season undefeated.[1]

After the completion of the 2009 season, rumors began circulating that the Slaughter would be leaving the struggling CIFL to join the more successful IFL for the 2010 season. On October 27 of 2009, the CIFL suddenly announced that it was expelling the Slaughter and cited non payment of 2009 dues and fees as the cause. In its October 29 announcement of joining the IFL, the Slaughter management countered the CIFL's claim by stating that the cash strapped league had spent most of the 2009 season attempting to charge them a higher amount for dues and fees than most of the other teams in the CIFL. Several other teams have also left the CIFL and joined other leagues because of contract or money disputes.
