In Canada the Chief Government Whip is the member of the Canadian House of Commons charged with ensuring party discipline among members of the caucus of the party forming the government. The whip is also responsible for assigning offices and scheduling speakers from his or her party for various bills, motions and other proceedings in the House.
On October 30, 2008 Gordon O'Connor was appointed to Stephen Harper's Cabinet as Chief Government Whip and Minister of State.
