Plot
A philosophy professor leading his students on an existential excursion to a remote motel finds his views on life and death put to the ultimate test when the group is attacked by a murderous gang of undead woodsmen in director Marek Dobes' gruesome horror comedy. What better place to ponder the meaning of life than at a remote motel completely isolated from the outside world? The Halali motel is just such a place, and upon arrival Professor Reinis and his students begin their philosophical debates as to just why they have been granted the gift of life. Unfortunately for the pondering pupils, a group of deceased woodsman have also been bestowed the very same gift. Review
One reason that the Zombie Renaissance of 2004 worked so well is that all of the big hits on the list were different and fresh, something that Germany's Choking Hazard can safely pride itself on as well. Goofy to its core, this flick might be the lightest of the bunch. In fact, this comedy's horror elements begin and end with the setup, instead basing the rest of the laughs on screwball humor and drawn-out sight gags. The zombies themselves look more like the same four homeless people over and over again, but that's okay. In fact, the film was shot with a fine eye and a love for split-screen action, which automatically sets it apart from some of its lower-budgeted, bottom of the video rack zombie brethren. Choking Hazard isn't quite a classic, but by no means is that a dis. Look to it for fun horror gags, but don't expect much else. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, All Movie Guide
