Biography

Based in Los Angeles, Chris Cox is a producer, club DJ, and mixmaster who specializes in dance music and club-friendly electronica. Cox is half of the popular producing/remixing team known as Thunderpuss, which also includes fellow dance music specialist Barry Harris (not to be confused with the veteran jazz pianist). Thunderpuss has remixed a variety of songs, including Jennifer Lopez's "Alive," Britney Spears' "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know," LeAnn Rimes' "Can't Fight the Moonlight," Madonna's "Don't Tell Me," Cher's "Song for the Lonely," and Whitney Houston's "Whatchulookinat" -- and if a song isn't club-friendly to begin with, it will be after Thunderpuss gets ahold of it. Cox is also part of the group Pusaka, which includes DJ Irene and had a club hit with the 2001 single "You're the Worst Thing for Me."

Cox didn't grow up in southern California; he was born and raised in Carson City, NV, and he graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), with a degree in music before moving to L.A. in the early '90s. As the '90s progressed, he became increasingly well-known in the dance music field -- and it was in the mid-'90s that Cox and colleague Jeff Johnson founded the dance-oriented Interhit Records (which won a Grammy in the "Best Dance Recording" category in 1998 for the Donna Summer/Giorgio Moroder hit "Carry On"). In 2002, Cox and Johnson teamed up once again when they founded another dance-oriented label called Provocative Music. That year, Provocative released two dance music collections that underscore Cox's mixing skills: Provocative Trance and 12 Inches of Cox. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide
