Biography
French cinematographer Christian Matras was one of the most respected and admired lighting directors in French cinema. He began his career as a newsreel photographer; by the mid 1920s he was directing documentaries. In the 1930s he became a cinematographer and worked on several classic French films, including Renoir's Grand Illusion (1937) and Max Ophüls' La Ronde (1950). ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
