Christopher Robin
Christopher Robin is a character in the Winnie-the-Pooh stories. He is a young boy who is one of Winnie-the-Pooh's best friends. His other friends are Piglet, Tigger, Kanga, Roo, and Eeyore. Christopher Robin also has animal friends including Rabbit, Owl, and Gopher (who appears only in Disney's Winnie the Pooh franchise). He lives at the other end of the Forest. In the end of The House Of Pooh Corner he goes to boarding school.
His catchphrase is "Silly old bear."
He was based upon the author A. A. Milne's own son, Christopher Robin Milne, who in later life became unhappy with the use of his name, writing in one of a series of autobiographical works: "It seemed to me almost that my father had got where he was by climbing on my infant shoulders, that he had filched from me my good name and left me nothing but empty fame."
The character was immortalised in a pop version of A. A. Milne's poem, Christopher Robin at Buckingham Palace. The poem was originally written for King George VI. Petula Clark released her recording of it in 1953 to coincide with the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, and despite not making the charts, it was very popular on BBC radio's Children's Choice programme. A version was also released by Ann Stephens.
Christopher Robin also appears in many other of A. A. Milne's poems and short stories. Although he lives in the forest, he still attends school.
Trivia
- In Disney's Winnie the Pooh franchise, Christopher Robin's mother was only heard but never seen. Her face was never shown in The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, not unlike Nanny from Muppet Babies.
- Christopher Robin's face was never shown in the short-lived puppetry television series The Book of Pooh.
- Contrary to published reports, Darby in My Friends Tigger & Pooh is not a replacement for Christopher Robin, who will still appear throughout the show.
- In the Kingdom Hearts series, Sora takes a similar role while in the "100 Acre Woods" world.
