Name borne by several heroes in early Irish narrative, of whom the most important is Cian (1), the father of Lug Lámfhota. There is also a Welsh Cian (See CIAN (2)).

Means "ancient" in Gaelic. This was the name of the mythical ancestor of the Cianachta in Irish legend. Cian was also the name of a son-in-law of Brian Boru.
