BACKGROUND PERSONALITY:Cid is a very cold and irritable person on the outside, ever since his dreams of space travel were shattered. He would rather hide away and fix his rocket than converse with anyone, especially his wife Shera. He is a very determined person, however, and does not rest until a job is done.
ORIGIN:Cid always dreamed of soaring into outer space and nearly got his chance when Shinra set up a launch base in his hometown (which quickly became known as Rocket Town). He was put in charge of the mission but pulled the plug to save his wife Shera who was still inside the ship. The shuttle fell over, wedging itself into a jam, and was quickly shut down. Not too upset over the loss, Shinra pulled out and abandoned the space program leaving Cid with a hatred for his wife because of her role in the aborted launch. Since then, he has spent every day fixing the shuttle in the hopes of one day making it to outer space.

BEHIND-THE-SCENES CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT: Ever since Japan's Final Fantasy III (unreleased in America), a character named Cid has been present in some way or another. Whether he fixes things, knows his way around a lab or presides over an academy, Cid always represents a respectable character. However, Cid Highwind of Final Fantasy VII seems to be the most active as far as gameplay is concerned of any Final Fantasy release thus far.
