Cilia Flores (born in Caracas in 1953) political and lawyer Venezuelan. Actually deputy of the National Assembly of Venezuela for the Cardinal District and President of the same one from 2006. She forms part of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).

Flores Santa Maria University of Caracas graduated, is a specialist in Criminal and Labour Law. After the attempt coups of 1992, Flores devoted itself to defend the military´s mens who had participate in the insurrectional movements. In 1993 she founded the Circle Bolivariano of the Human Rights and joint to the Movement Bolivariano Revolucionario - 200 (MBR-200) that there was grouping the leftist that had raised in 1992. She formed part of The juridical Equipment (team) that managed the presidential pardon of Rafael Caldera the president at the time of the Republic to look for Hugo Chávez's liberation in 1994, achieving the objective.

On the MBR-200 not having been able to be legalized, there takes part in 1997 in the foundation of the Movement V República (MVR), political party that was looking for Hugo Chávez's presidential choice(election) in the assemblies of 1998, in which Chávez triumphed. In the parliamentary choices(elections) of 2000, Cilia Flores obtains a seat in the National Assembly and then she is reelect in 2005 for the second period. In addition, the President of the Assembly had a important participation in the year 1990, 1992 where there were realized the assaults of the President Hugo Chávez.

She is married with the Secretary of State of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, who presided at the parliament during the period of meetings 2005-2006. After the exit of Maduro of the National Assembly in August, 2006 to occupy the ministerial post, Flores was elect in the internal parliamentary voting as President of the National Assembly, being the first Venezuelan woman in reaching this post(cargo in spanish). [1] As President of the National Assembly, Flores it has been criticized for supporting a slanted line favorable to the government of Hugo Chávez. She was criticized by sectors of the opposition for using numerous relatives in the Assembly National and accused of nepotism. [2] In 2007 she passed to form a part of the PSUV, after the disappearance of the MVR.


On 10 January 2007, Flores swore President Hugo Chávez into office.
