Review

The long-awaited debut by Birmingham, England's Avrocar is a wonderfully sonic excursion into the similar pocked-moonscape terrain of the burgeoning German post-rock cosmonauts (To Rococo Rot, Tarwater, Kreidler), but the use of hushed vocals ("Real Time" and "Ueno") is what sets this band apart from its eastern bloc brethren. Some of this sounds like ambient/droning Spacemen 3 or spirited minimalist Krautrock-inspired Sturm und Drang reconfigured and filtered through the occasionally upbeat pop of fellow U.K. act Appliance. A fine example of Avrocar's sound decoupage is "Recoil," which floats like a hovercraft over a lonely lunar surface of sound. ~ Bryan Thomas, All Music Guide
