Cirò DOC

[CHEER-oh] The best-known doc in southern Italy's calabria region. It's said that the ancient Greeks served these wines (then called Cremissa) to Olympic winners. Many consider the past reputation to be better than the current one. The Cirò doc produces rosso, bianco and rosato wines. The main varieties used for the red and rosé wines are the red gaglioppo and the white trebbiano and greco grapes. The white wines are made from Greco and Trebbiano. Cirò DOC red riserva wines have been aged for 2 years.
