City of Adam

The City of Adam stood "beside Zarethan" (Joshua 3:16) on the east bank of the Jordan. At this city, the flow of the water was arrested and rose up "upon an heap" at the time of the Israelites' passing over (Joshua 3:16). It has been identified as Tell Adamiyeh, a small mound near Damia Bridge.[citation needed]

Adam was also the name given to the first man formed. That is the Adam mentioned in Genesis. Perhaps there is relevance in the fact that this is where the waters dried up in order for the tribe of Israel to cross the Jordan before Jericho.[original research?]
