It's a city, it's a port, it's Long Beach. The City of Long Beach boasts the busiest port on the west coast and the top container port in the nation, and it's 3,400-slip city marina is the largest municipally run one in the country. The city uses a charter form of government with an elected mayor and city council (nine members elected by district) as well as an appointed city manager. Its known for its large oil reserves; the Long Beach Oil & Gas Department is responsible for injecting more than 45 million gallons of water into the ground daily to maintain elevation where oil is extracted. Long Beach has a budget of about $2.3 billion for a population of around 462,000.
