Ciudad Ojeda is a city located in the northeastern shore of Lake Maracaibo in the state of Zulia in northwestern Venezuela, with a population of over 128,941 (2005 census). Ciudad Ojeda is an important oil centre.

History
Ciudad Ojeda was founded on January 19, 1937 by former president Eleazar Lopez Contreras as a settlement for the inhabitants of Lagunillas de Aguas.[1]. Nowadays, it has one of the biggest oil fields in Latin America and is an important commercial point in the country.
Origin of the name
It was named in honour to the man who discovered Lake Maracaibo, Alonso de Ojeda.
Population
Ciudad Ojeda is medium-size city with a population of approximately 130,000 inhabitants. The majority of Citojenses are of Italian origin. It is also home to numerous foreign communities of Portuguese, Chinese and Arabs who have the biggest businesses in the city.[2]
