Plot

This film, part of the highly acclaimed continuing PBS series, surveys 18th century European ideas, with a focus on "reason," the Enlightenment, and Voltaire. Humanitarianism became a favorite subject, and genteel chat in Paris salons gave way to thoughts of political revolution. The art of the period is reflected in works by David, Van Loo, De Troy, and Houdon. This episode also visits the Blenheim Palace in Europe and Jefferson's American home, Monticello. ~ Alice Day, All Movie Guide
