The House of Burke (also known as de Burgh or Bourke - french de Burgos, from Burgos), are a Hiberno-Norman noble house, the descendants of William de Burgh (c.1160?-1204), a Norman adventurer and knight who settled in Ireland. He was probably the elder brother of Hubert de Burgh, Earl of Kent. The surname is one of the most common in Ireland, particularly north Munster and Connacht.
