Review
Classics Selection is a spectacular compilation, actually, it's a sort of three-in-one reissue project. It includes the entirety of two 12" vinyl EPs released in very limited editions in 1999 and 2000, shortly after the death of Bryn Jones (who recorded under the name Muslimgauze). Both EPs -- titled Systemwide Meets Muslimgauze at the City of the Dead and Nommos' Return, respectively -- consist of Jones' remixes of material sent to him by the members of Systemwide early in that band's career. This disc also includes the contents of a six-track EP by Sound Secretion (a.k.a. Josh Derry, who currently records under the name Alter Echo). Where the Muslimgauze and Systemwide collaborations tend to be somewhat mystical and trance-inducing, the Sound Secretion material is harder and more breakbeat-oriented, though it also partakes deeply of the dub influence that informs all of Systemwide's work. Each of the EPs collected here is augmented by one additional bonus track, making this album impressive not only in terms of quality, but in terms of quantity as well. Strongly recommended to all fans of experimental electronica and modern dub. ~ Rick Anderson, All Music GuideTracks
