A compilation of habits that may cause periodontal disease. Habit neuroses include lip biting, cheek biting, biting of foreign objects, and abnormal tongue pressure against the teeth. Occupational habits include thread biting, musician’s habits, holding nails in the mouth, etc. Miscellaneous habits include thumb sucking, pipe smoking, incorrect toothbrushing habits, cracking nuts with the teeth, and mouth breathing.
