Clemente Palma

Wikipedia: Clemente Palma

Clemente Palma (December 3, 1872 - August 13, 1946) was a Peruvian writer. He was the son of the famous Peruvian scholar Ricardo Palma. Although he wrote a good deal of criticism, his best known works are in the realm of fiction. His two short story collections 1904's Cuentos malévolos ("Malevolent Tales") and 1925's Historietas Malignas ("Malignant Tales") are in the style of Villiers de l'Isle-Adam's Contes cruels. Influenced by Decadent themes and subject matter, they are filled with dark humor, blasphemy and the supernatural. He also wrote several novels, including 1923's Mors et Vita ("Death and Life") and 1935's XYZ.
