Clickair was a low-cost airline based in Barcelona, Spain. In 2008-2009 it merged with Vueling Airlines and took its name. Clickair flew to nearly 40 destinations in Europe. The airline's main base was Barcelona with hubs at Málaga, Seville and Valencia[1].

History

The company was first called Catair, derived from CAT (CATalonia) and AIR. Today Catair Lineas Aereas is the name of the holding company.[citation needed]

The airline started operations on 1 October 2006 with 3 Airbus A320 aircraft operating 5 routes from its Barcelona hub. [2] The company was founded from initial capital investment from Cobra, Iberia, Iberostar, Nefinsa and Quercus Equity (Group Agrolimen), each with a 20% share. [3] Although Iberia holds a 20% stake in the airline, it controls 80% of its economic rights. The company has plans for the operation of 30 Airbus A320s on 70 routes, carrying 10 million passengers a year by the end of 2008[1]. Clickair's IATA code, XG was inherited from Gestair Cargo's retired passenger airline Regional Lineas Aereas.

In June 2008, Vueling and Clickair announced their intention to merge, with Vueling to be the name of the merged airline.[4]

In mid-July of 2009 the merger was completed.[5] Iberia Group will hold a 45.85% shareholding in the new Vueling.[5]
