What is Clindamycin; Tretinoin skin gel?
What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
diarrhea
inflammatory bowel disease
stomach problems like colitis
sunburn
an unusual reaction to clindamycin, tretinoin, vitamin A, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
pregnant or trying to get pregnant
breast-feeding
How should this medicine be used?
This medicine is for use on the skin only. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Use at bedtime. Wash hands before and after use. Gently wash your face with a mild, non-medicated soap before use. Pat the skin dry. Apply a pea-size amount of the gel to your fingertip and gently spread it over your face. Do not use more than once per day. Using too much of this medicine may irritate or increase the irritation of your skin, and will not give faster or better results. Avoid applying this medicine to your eyes, ears, nostrils, angles of the nose, and mouth.
It is important to use this medicine for the full course prescribed by your prescriber or health care professional, even if you think your condition is better. Do not stop using except on your prescriber's advice.
Contact your pediatrician or health care professional regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.
What if I miss a dose?
What drug(s) may interact with Clindamycin; Tretinoin?
erythromycin-containing products
other acne products including benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid
skin cleansers or medicated soaps
medicated cosmetics, including cover-up preparations
skin care products that have a high alcohol content (some shaving creams, lotions, or after shave lotion)
other skin products that contain alcohol, astringents, spices or lime
Tell your prescriber or health care professional about all other medicines you are taking, including non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements, or herbal products. Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way your medicine works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.
What should I watch for while taking Clindamycin; Tretinoin?
Your skin may get very dry and scale or peel. Let your doctor or health care professional know if this happens. Do not use any soothing cream or ointment without advice.
Do not wash your face more than 2 or 3 times a day. Do not use the following products on the same areas that you are treating with this medicine, unless otherwise directed by your doctor or health care professional: other topical agents with a strong skin drying effect like products with a high alcohol content, astringents, spices, the peel of lime or other citrus, medicated soaps or shampoos, permanent wave solutions, electrolysis, hair removers or waxes, or any other preparations or processes that might dry or irritate your skin. Ask your doctor or healthcare professional before using these products.
This medicine can make you more sensitive to the sue. If you cannot avoid being in the sun, wear protective clothing and use a sunscreen (SPF 15 or higher). Do not use sun lamps or tanning beds/booths.
What side effects may I notice from receiving Clindamycin; Tretinoin?
Side effects that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible:
crusting or swelling of the treated areas
diarrhea that is watery or severe
excessive or persistent burning, stinging or itching of the treated areas
pain on swallowing
stomach pain or cramps
unusual or persistent rash or skin reaction
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):
dry skin
red, inflamed, and irritated skin, the skin may peel after a few days
increased sensitivity to the sun
darkening or lightening of the treated areas
Where can I keep my medicine?
Keep out of the reach of children.
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Do not freeze. Keep away from heat and protect from light. Keep the tube tightly closed.
