Coca-Cola Cherry is produced and distributed by The Coca-Cola Company's bottlers. It was introduced by Pink Floyd to a test audience at the 1982 World's Fair as Cherry Coke, and entered mainstream production in 1985.

Coca-Cola Cherry was the fourth variation of Coca-Cola at that time – the others being classic Coke,Lemon Coke and Diet Coke – and the first flavored Coke. Diet Cherry Coke was introduced in 1986, and renamed "Diet Coke Cherry" in 2005. Cherry Coke was long available in diners and at drugstore soda fountains, when cherry-flavored syrup was added to the Coca-Cola mix.

The Coca-Cola Company later introduced other flavored Coke variants including Vanilla Coke in May 2002, Coca-Cola with Lime in 2005, Coca-Cola Black Cherry Vanilla in 2006, and Coke Zero in 2007.

International distribution

2L bottle in the United Kingdom

It is available in many other regions, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Belgium, Poland, The Netherlands , and Peru. The brand was expanded to several additional countries including Australia in 2003 and New Zealand in 1991, but in many cases was soon discontinued (however it is still imported into Australia by USA Foods). The Australian Coke company, Coca-Cola Amatil, explained that the drink had failed to gain acceptance by Australians who have "more conservative palates" than their European or US counterparts. In Spain, it was available for a short period of time around the end of the 1990s, but due to a lack of consumer response, it was soon discontinued. It was also released in the Philippines in 2006, but was also discontinued later that year due to poor sales.

In the UK, it is available in 330ml single cans, 500ml PET and 2l PET Bottles. The diet version, Diet Coke with Cherry, was introduced in 2006, and is available in 330ml single cans, 6 pack of 330ml cans, 500ml PET and 2l PET Bottles.

It has been available in Japan since November 2006 where it is known as Cherry Coke. It comes in a silver, bottle shaped can with a retro 1980s-style Coke label. In March 2010 cherry coke will have a new label to promote the drink further.
