Cocoa High School FCAT Scandal

At the end of the 2005-2006 school year, Brevard Public School District conducted an internal investigation of Cocoa High which resulted in the removal of four of the school's principals.

The administration at the school inaccurately reported its FCAT information. The District found that the school's principal - Lori Backus, and three assistant principals - Dino Colona, Carol Carmichael and Nancy Hudak, were involved in the scandal. All four administrators were removed from their positions.[1]

While the other administrators involved in the scandal were moved to lower teaching positions or forced to retire, the School District allowed Carol Carmichael to serve as principal of Roy Allen Elementary School for the 2006-2007 school year. The District has no rationale for the special treatment of Carol Carmichael.[2]
