Coffee Crisp

Wikipedia: Coffee Crisp

Coffee Crisp is a popular chocolate bar created in Canada.

History

It was first marketed in 1938 by Rowntree's Canadian branch. It is presently marketed by Nestlé Canada. The bar is a combination of coffee cream, cookie wafers and milk chocolate coating. It does contain a small amount of coffee, although much of its coffee taste comes from flavouring.

Marketing byline

Its advertising motto is: "Coffee Crisp makes a nice light snack." Throughout the 1980s, TV ads for the confection ran with the question "How do you like your coffee?", the response being "Crisp", or "I like my coffee crisp".

Other versions of the confection

In 2001, the first variation of the Coffee Crisp brand was introduced, a limited edition "Coffee Crisp Orange" flavour. A limited amount of the orange flavour was reissued in 2002. 2002 also saw the release of a limited edition "Coffee Crisp Raspberry" flavour. "Coffee Crisp Café Caramel" was sold in the summer of 2004 and once again in the summer of 2006 and a limited edition "Coffee Crisp White" was launched in the autumn that same year. A limited edition maple flavoured bar was available from April to September 2005.

Besides the original and limited edition bars, Coffee Crisp is available in "French Vanilla" and "Triple Mocha" flavours. 2005 also saw the introduction of the coffee bean shaped "Coffee Crisp Beans". The most recent bar form that can be found is Coffee Crisp Yogurt.

As of January 2007, all variations of Coffee Crisp bars besides the original have been discontinued.

A Coffee Crisp-flavoured ice cream bar and ice cream flavour are also available.

Availability outside of Canada

Canadian expatriates to the United States have long lamented the bar's relative unavailability outside of Canada. Unofficial exports (originally labelled for the Canadian market) were found in some stores, like Cost Plus World Market, the Cub Foods import section, and some small stores, especially those near the Canadian border.

There was a petition at coffeecrisp.org asking Nestlé to market the Coffee Crisp in all US cities. According to the site, its petition has succeeded,[1] and Nestlé began marketing the Coffee Crisp nationwide in late July 2006.[2]

As of September 2006, Nestle USA has begun distributing Coffee Crisp as one of their permanent candy bars in their stable of brands.

Coffee Crisp is also available in Australia at specialised candy stores, in particular those that import selected American candies.

As of April 2009, the marketing of the Coffee Crisp bar into the US market was discontinued by Nestle Canada.[citation needed] As of May 2009, Coffee Crisp was being imported into the US market by British Wholesale Imports (BWI) (www.bwi-imports.com).
