Cogenhoe United is a football team from the village of Cogenhoe, Northamptonshire, England. They play in the United Counties League Premier Division.

History

Cogenhoe played in the Central Northants Combination from 1967 to 1985, winning the championship in 1980-81, 1982-83 and 1983-84. They joined the United Counties League Division One for the 1985-86 season. After finishing runners-up in 1986-87, they were promoted to the Premier Division. They finished runners-up in 1999-00 and 2000-01, and only failed to take the runners-up spot for a third year running on goal difference^[1].

On the final day of the 2004-05 season, Cogenhoe were playing away to second-placed Potton United. They needed to win or draw to claim the title, and drew 2-2, however the lack of a suitable home stadium meant the team was not promoted but since then, new facilities have been added to the ground in preparation for a promotion to a Step Four league.

Ground

The club plays its home games at Compton Park in Brafield Road, Cogenhoe. The club built the facilities and moved in during 1985. The ground capacity is 5,000, there are 100 seats, and 200 under cover. The first competitive match played at Compton Park was the final match in the Central Combination, when Cogenhoe defeated Bugbrooke St. Michaels 1-0, with Jason Moore scoring the first goal on this ground. Compton Park has recently undergone ground and clubhouse improvements. There is a full training pitch with superb facilities and equipment. The Old Stand has now been replaced by a much bigger stand and there is also a covered stand behind the goal.

Rivalries

The club has the nickname The Cooks because the name of the village of Cogenhoe is pronounced "cook-no". The club's main rivals are Northampton Spencer who play in the same league. The two clubs are situated about fifteen minutes apart. They have a traditional Boxing Day fixture, which guarantees needle and tension and ensures local bragging rights for the winner, until they meet again. The club also has local county rivalries with near-neighbours Wellingborough Town, Long Buckby and Daventry Town.

• Record Attendance : 1000 was against an Eastenders XI, for a charity match in 1990.
