Review

When listening to the pieces on this record in succession, an unnameable, evocative narrative seems to underlie the whole. The recording includes works by Chas Smith ("Beatrix"), Ingram Marshall ("Gradual Siciliano [For Gus]"), Peter Garland ("The Three Strange Angels [1972-73]" for piano, drum, and bullroarer), Daniel Lentz ("You Can't See the Forest...Music" [1971]), Michael Byron ("Marimbas in the Dorian Mode" [May Day, 1976]), Jim Fox ("Appearance of Red"), Read Miller ("Weddings, Funerals, and Children Who Cannot Sleep"), John Kuhlmann ("In This Light"), Rick Cox ("Necessity"), Michael Jon Fink ("Celesta Solo" [1981]), Eugene Bowen/Harold Budd ("Wonder's Edge"), and James Tenney ("Spectral CANON for CONLON Nancarrow" for player piano). ~ "Blue" Gene Tyranny, All Music Guide
