Cold Knap lake

Cold Knap is a district of Barry in South Wales.

History & Amenities

It is a pebble beach on the coast. It regularly attracts visitors during the summer months. It is located a few miles west of the sandy beach of Barry Island. It was founded by the Romans who used it as a port. Cold Knap lake is an attractive location. The area has a skate park.

There used to be an outdoor swimming pool that was used extensively for years by young and old alike, then the authorities decided to close it, it was filled in and the area has now been turned into a tourist trail.

Cold Knap Lake is also the title, and subject, of a poem by Gillian Clarke. The poem is a key poem on the English literature GCSE syllabus in England.

It was also the scene of a well known English contract law case called Chapelton v. Barry UDC [1940] 1 KB 532, where a man's deckchair collapsed.
