Collingwood Football Club, officially nicknamed The Magpies, is an Australian rules football club which plays in the Victorian Football League.

History
Collingwood had joined the VFA/VFL in 1892, but left the competition to join the VFL/AFL after winning the premiership in 1896. The Club fielded a team in the reserves from 1897 through until the league abandoned the reserves concept at the conclusion of the 1999 season. In 2000, the VFL competition was revamped, as AFL teams aligned themselves with VFL clubs. After spending 2000 as a standalone VFL team, Collingwood formed an alignment with the Williamstown Football Club, which existed from 2001-2007.
The Collingwood VFL Football Club was formed in 2008 by the AFL's Collingwood Football Club to act as their affiliate team in the Victorian Football League.
Collingwood is the second AFL team, behind Geelong Football Club, to establish a stand-alone club in the VFL.
2000 VFL Season
Collingwood failed to make the finals in their first year in the revamped VFL competition, after a bright start to the season. Notable names to play for the side during various stages of the season included Club legends Gavin Brown and Gavin Crosisca, as well as Stephen Patterson and players soon to be household names including Ben Johnson, Leon Davis and Rhyce Shaw.
2008 VFL Season
Gavin Brown was selected to coach the club in its first season,[1]. The 2008 VFL season was more or less the opposite of the 2008 AFL Season for Collingwood. The VFL side finished 12th, in a 15 team comp. On the other hand the AFL side finished 5th. Though there were good moments in the season for the VFL side, such as the 90-point thrashing of the Bendigo Bombers, the emergence of the young Collingwood AFL listed players including John McCarthy, Chris Dawes, Sharrod Wellingham and John Anthony, and defeating eventual Grand Finalists Port Melbourne FC in the first round.

Victoria Park
For Season 2010 and beyond, Collingwood VFL will return of the suburban/home ground of Victoria Park. Nine home matches are scheduled for the venue in 2010. It has been almost a decade since the Magpies AFL team played their last true home match there and the news was embraced by Collingwood supporters around Australia, as the VFL team had so far played all their home games at Princes Park, the home of Collingwood's arch rival, Carlton.
Sponsorship
The club announced on 10 April 2008 that a sponsorship deal had been signed with the mobile phone retailer Crazy John's to become the club's major sponsor.[4] Crazy John's had been a sponsor of the club's AFL affiliate since 2001,[4] and its logo would appear on the front and back of the club's VFL guernsey.[4] The club also has a sponsorship deal with sports apparel manufacturer Adidas.
