Convention and meeting planners are offered a wide range of facilities in the metropolitan Columbus area. The Greater Columbus Convention Center, which opened in 1993 and underwent expansion in 2001, hosting more than 2,500,000 attendees and delegates that year. The Convention Center features 1.7 million square feet of exhibition space and 100,000 square feet of retail space. The nearby Ohio Center Mall is an added attraction to the convention center. Other meeting facilities include Franklin County Veterans Memorial, Ohio Expo Center (site of the Ohio State Fair), and the Palace and Ohio theaters.
First-class downtown hotels, including the Hyatt Regency, the Westin, the Courtyard by Marriott, and the Doubletree Guest Suites, maintain a complete range of meeting and banquet facilities. There are more than 3,000 hotel rooms within walking distance of the Convention Center.
