Biography

A blue-collar punk band from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Comeback Kid (otherwise known as CBK) combine declamatory vocals with a hyper-speed rhythm section and two riff-happy guitarists. The Canadian band formed in 2002, with lead singer Scott Wade joining forces with lead guitarist Andrew Neufeld (also the lead singer in the Winnipeg-based Christian hardcore act Figure Four) and adding rhythm guitarist Jeremy Hiebert (also a member of Figure Four), bassist Cliff Heide, and drummer Kyle Profetta. While Neufeld and Hiebert continued touring and recording with Figure Four, Comeback Kid managed to put together a self-released six-song demo that earned the band a deal with California's hardcore label Face Down Records, which released the band's debut album, Turn It Around, in the spring of 2003. By now, Comeback Kid (having already gone through several transient bassists) had settled down with new bass player Kevin Call. After extensive touring throughout Canada, Europe, and the United States in support of the record, Comeback Kid signed with the influential punk and emo label Victory Records in 2004.

Victory released the band's second album (produced by pop-punk legend Bill Stevenson of Black Flag and Descendents fame), Wake the Dead, in February 2005. Following another bout of extensive touring, including dates supporting Madball, Sick of It All, and Gorilla Biscuits, Wade announced his resignation from the band in early 2006. His last show with Comeback Kid was that summer, after which the band continued onward as a quartet with Neufeld taking over lead vocal duties. The slimmed-down band then issued Broadcasting... in February 2007 and returned to the road. Released the following year, the concert recording Through the Noise captured the band's live show in CD/DVD format. ~ Stewart Mason, All Music Guide

Comeback Kid (commonly abbreviated as CBK) is a hardcore punk band from Winnipeg, Canada. Their name comes from a headline in a newspaper about hockey player, Mario Lemieux coming back to the NHL.[1] The band was formed in 2002 by Andrew Neufeld and Jeremy Hiebert who were both members of the band Figure Four, which is currently on hiatus. They were joined by their friends Scott Wade and Kyle Profetta, but CBK was originally intended only to be a side project.[2] Their initial popularity was mainly due to word of mouth within the metalcore/hardcore scene. The band released Turn It Around on Facedown Records in 2003 before moving to Smallman Records in Canada and Victory Records in the rest of the world the following year. In July 2004 Comeback Kid and Figure Four both performed at the 3 day indoor festival Hellfest held at the Rexplex in New Jersey. The played on day 2[3], Saturday the 24th of July. In the summer of 2005, CBK toured with Rise Against.[4]

Kevin's departure

On Tuesday, November 20, 2007 Kevin Call posted a MySpace bulletin saying that he was leaving Comeback Kid.

"Life has called on me to go in a different direction - one that no longer involves playing bass guitar in Comeback Kid. These past few years with this band have been the best years of my life. I've seen some amazing places, made some amazing friendships all over the world, and have grown so much as a result of playing in this band. I thank Andrew, Kyle, Jeremy, Scott, Greg, and Casey for giving me the privilege of creating music and performing worldwide with them. I also thank every person who has ever played a part in this band - whether you did a stage dive, bought a record, or put forth effort to make Comeback Kid the band it is today. I wish the rest of the dudes the best of luck. We will be playing what will be my last shows in mid-December, including a show in my hometown of Minneapolis. So keep an eye out for those. Thanks. See you around."
