When it comes to insurance, The Commerce Group means business. Its flagship Commerce Insurance is among the largest personal auto and homeowners insurers in Massachusetts -- in part because of its affinity marketing programs with AAA clubs, and because they are required by law to accept nearly all personal auto insurance business submitted by its agencies. The group also offers earthquake, flood, business, and umbrella insurance. Commerce Group has expanded into New Hampshire, but Massachusetts accounts for more than 85% of the group's premiums. Personal auto insurance accounts for more than 70% of its business. Its Commerce West and American Commerce subsidiaries sell auto insurance in 15 western states.
