Source of a message that is transferred to a receiver. The communicator can affect how a message is received by the selection of the communication channel and by variations in tone or context. For example, a written message regarding over-the-counter drugs is believable when it comes from a perceived authority such as a famous physician. The same message is less believable, however, if it is communicated by the same physician, who appears on television with an unkempt look and a voice lacking confidence.
