Game Description

The gameplay in Companions of Xanth closely follows the book from which it is based. You assume the role of someone who has just bought a new computer game. As you begin to play it, you slowly get sucked into your computer, winding up in the world of Xanth. It seems two demons are struggling for power and that one of them wants to destroy magic for good in the peaceful land. You'll have to choose a companion to help guide you through this magical world, filled with puzzles, spells, and lots and lots of puns. The game is much like other Legend titles, featuring hand-drawn artwork and a point-and-click interface.

Roots & Influences

Companions of Xanth expands on Legend Entertainment's text-based adventure roots with a more visual approach and hot-spotted items for further interaction. The content is taken from Piers Anthony's Demons Don't Dream, part of a long-running fantasy series about a world called Xanth and its inhabitants.

Xanth is a magical world filled with ogres, demons, fairies and puns. Written by Piers Anthony, each Xanth book takes place in a different part of the land and focuses on a specific character each time. This world also seems to be an exact opposite or alternate to "mundania," or everyday human life.

Over the years, this fantasy series has established a strong following, including Legend Entertainment Company. The company known for its text and point-and-click adventures has converted one of Anthony's Xanth books, Demons Don't Dream, into a PC adventure.
