US Military Dictionary: Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty

An agreement to prohibit “any nuclear weapon test explosion or any other nuclear explosion” anywhere. Negotiated at the 1996 Geneva Conference on Disarmament, it extended the Limited Test Ban Treaty. All forty-four states that formally participated in the Conference on Disarmament must sign and ratify the treaty in order for it to enter into force.

On September 24, 1996, President Bill Clinton became the first leader to sign it.
