(b Brunswick, c1696; d Amsterdam, 17 Dec 1765). German composer. He travelled in Germany and Italy as a harpsichord virtuoso and was briefly Kapellmeister at the Swedish court (from 1722). He presented operas in Brunswick and elsewhere and in 1743 became organist at the Oude Kerk, Amsterdam. He wrote cantatas, psalms, odes, concertos and keyboard sonatas, in a generally direct style.
