Conradin Kreutzer

(b Messkirch, 22 Nov 1780; d Riga, 14 Dec 1849). German composer and conductor. He was Kapellmeister intermittently in Stuttgart, Donaueschingen, Vienna and Cologne, having his greatest success at the Viennese Theater in der Josefstadt with the pleasing and expressive operas Das Nachtlager in Granada and Der Verschwender (both 1834); the latter is still performed in Austria. He also produced atmospheric choral settings of Uhland and effective chamber music.
