Executive responsible for defining marketing goals for an advertiser or advertising agency on the basis of consumer research and under whose auspices this research has been conducted; also called director of research, marketing research director, research director. The consumer research director usually works directly under the vice president of marketing services and hand in hand with the head of the media department. Many agencies use outside research companies that provide syndicated research data, in which case it is the responsibility of the research director to interpret the outside input and coordinate with the media planner.
