continental cabin

A one-and-one-half-story log house attributed to German-speaking immigrants to colonial America; usually consisted of a large room at the front of the house, a bedroom behind it, and a long narrow kitchen along one side. A sizable stove in the kitchen was used both for cooking and for heating the adjacent large room.
