Game Description
This third release in Sony's Cool Boarders series returns gamers to the slopes for more big tricks and heated competitions. This release brings 34 new courses -- twice as many as the previous year's version -- and virtual boarders can show their stuff in six different events. Also new in this edition is the ability to punch rival boarders in the middle of a race. Strap on one of 22 authentic Burton or Ride brand boards and carve through the fresh powder of Cool Boarders 3.~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide
Review: Overall
While 1080 Degrees Snowboarding still dominates the genre, 989 Studios latest entry into the fray, Cool Boarders 3 certain gives not only the aforementioned Nintendo title a good competition, it also gives PlayStation owners a snowboarding title worth playing.Graphically, Cool Boarders 3 has improved since the last title. New effects like dynamic lighting and trail effects in the snow show 989 Studios put time and effort into the title. Players are well designed and look the part on the screen. A few gripes I have come from the fact that there are some clipping problems and sometimes you're character can get lost behind some of the obstacles. While these problems are major, they do tend to hinder gameplay from time to time.
While on the subject of gameplay, Cool Boarders 3 offers the series best serving of gameplay. More tricks have been added, different events for the tournys, and even support for the Dual Shock controllers round out the list of added gameplay features. I've used both analog and digital control, and analog is pretty much the way to go. You won't get frustrated with the digital, and it is usable. However, if you want to really improve your race times and hone your snowboarding skills, your best bet is to use the analog. While a little hard to get used to at first, after the first couple of races, you'll find yourself more comfortable with the control and shouldn't have too much of a time getting your control down.
Probably the most impressive aspect of Cool Boarders 3 is the game's sound. 989 Studios definitely paid attention to this category, making the game stand out among competitors. Grinding down a long rail or maybe hitting some big air and landing an impressive 1080, Cool Boarders 3 gives gamers the real deal with sound. A nice soundtrack and some catchy tunes make the overall sounding experience worth the price of admission.
If you don't own a Nintendo, or even if you do and have played 1080 to death, Cool Boarders 3 is a must-rent and for those who are fans of the sport, a must-buy.

Review: Enjoyment
Plenty of modes to choose from including single player, practice, and tournaments. Not to mention the two player modes where you and a friend can compete to see who can bust the best tricks.~ Joshua Romero, All Game Guide
Review: Graphics
Nice visual with light shading, snow trail effect and other round out the category. A definate improvement over CB2.~ Joshua Romero, All Game Guide
Review: Sound
VERY nice sound. Wind whipping down the mountain or the way it sounds when you land a misty flip off of a half-pipe. 989 Studio did an excellent job in this category.~ Joshua Romero, All Game Guide
Review: Replay Value
While the single player modes are fun in themselves, it's really the two-player vs. mode where the fun is. Perfect your skills on the half-pipe, then invite your friends over for an inudustrial strength tail-whoopin'.~ Joshua Romero, All Game Guide
Review: Documentation
Your instruction booklet pretty much covers everything you need to know. There is always 989 Studio's web site, but you can probably handle it.~ Joshua Romero, All Game Guide
