Cool Boarders 4

Game Description

Cool Boarders 4 features 16 real-life professional snowboarders ranging from 13-year-old prodigy Shaun White to veterans such as Noah Salasnek and living-legend Jim Rippey. Players also have the ability to custom-create a rider by selecting a body, choosing brand name attire and gear, and customizing any available board to your liking. Players can choose among 34 boards from Burton, Forum, K2, MLY, M3, Salomon, Ride, Morrow, and Santa Cruz.

There are over 30 new courses spread out over five authentic mountains that are filled with steep cliffs, drops, jumps, rails, and various obstacles. Cool Boarders 4 also features "Dirty Hands" by hard rock artist Outer Circle. And the game is compatible with the Dual Shock Analog Controller and your choice of memory cards.

Roots & Influences

Cool Boarders has been an important series for Sony Computer Entertainment ever since it launched in 1996. At that time, Cool Boarders was the lone snowboarder on the PlayStation, but while the game was certainly original to some degree, critics knew it wasn't quite up to standard. In November 1997, Cool Boarders 2 was launched, and was met by similar acclaim due to 989 Studios failure to fix those niggling problems that had brought down the original.

In April 1998, 1080 Snowboarding changed the face of snowboarding forever -- the game was on a whole new level in comparison to past releases. While the Nintendo developed title was on a entirely different platform, 989 Studios soon took up the offer for another release on the 28th of October 1998 in competition, but this time the game improved significantly borrowing a number game design tips from Nintendo themselves while still keeping in the series style.

Pre Cool Boarders influences include Namco's Arcade series of ski/snowboard titles that set the pace for the first generation of 3D Snowboarding titles. These titles include Alpine Ski, Alpine Racer, and Alpine Surfer.
