Coquito is an eggnog-like alcoholic
beverage that is traditionally served in Puerto Rico. Coquito is made with
rum, eggs, coconut cream,
evaporated milk, sweet condensed milk,
vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and
cloves. The drink is commonly associated with the Christmas
holidays, where it is traditionally served along other holiday food.
Variations of the drink often include vanilla and evaporated milk as ingredients in the preparation proceess, these
ingredients are not required for the preparation of the recipe and are usually used to make the taste sweeter. Coquito is served
in shot glasses or small cups and it is usually sprinked with grated nutmeg.
While traditionally made at home, the first pre-mixed Coquito, called Mi Abuela Coquito, launched in 2007 by Bambu Imports,
importers of Bambu Rum and Bulldog Gin.
