Correctional Facilities of Ontario, Canada
This is a listing of past and present correctional facilities run by the provincial government in Ontario, Canada. Provincial jails (historically
referred to as gaols) and detention centres
primarily house offenders awaiting trial. Correctional centres house convicted inmates serving sentences of up to two years, less
a day. Offenders sentenced to two years or more serve their time in federal correctional facilities run by Correctional Services Canada. Complexes are institutions that have both detention and
correctional facilities.
Provincial facilities are under the jurisdiction of Ontario's Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
