The Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC) is a consortium of state-supported liberal arts colleges. Its mission is to "advance the aims of its member institutions and drive awareness of the value of high-quality, public liberal arts education in a student-centered, resiential environment." Established in 1987 and now consisting of 26 colleges and universities in 24 states and one Canadian province, COPLAC represents an important sector in higher education. These selective institutions have been recognized nationally as outstanding in many diverse ways, including small classes, innovations in teaching, personal interactions with faculty, opportunities for faculty-supervised research and supportive atmospheres."[1]
