CountrySide features an abundance of well-groomed open space and pockets of wooded areas. Most of the homes have lushly landscaped yards with multiple mature trees that have had time to grow tall since they were planted some 20 years ago. The community contains an extensive network of paved paths that wind through the wooded neighborhoods. It also contains three large swimming pools. The housing development is just over a mile from the banks of the Potomac River. A wide gravel path meanders through a wooded flood plain, traversing a preserve known as Horsepen Run, down to the Potomac River. A network of smaller hiking trails branch off the main trail and offer residents many senic options for hiking, mountain biking, nature-watching and jogging. Some of the trails were developed by Eagle Scouts; others gradually by hikers; still others predate CountrySide itself. Planned integration with the Potomac Heritage Trail is in dispute despite the PHT's federally-granted easement.[citation needed] Residents interested in supporting the ongoing expansion of the trail network should call 703-430-0715 to voice support.
CountrySide contains a shopping center, CountrySide Marketplace, which is anchored by Safeway and CVS. The shopping center is within the mixed-use CountrySide Commercial and Professional Center, which contains various office buildings. Also nearby is the Regal CountrySide 20 movie theater and the Dulles Town Center mall.
